How to setup steps:

I have 2 local friends who have the soloshot 3 and they both also get about 60-75% accuracy,

Some lessons learned over the years:

************************************

1- NEVER store / travel the camera and base together!!!!!!! ALWAYS DISCONNECT the base from the camera when moving the soloshot!

*********************************

The vertical tracking is very sensitive. I broke my first soloshot because I stored the lens and base together while transporting. I then learned to always store the lens and base separate, always!

When i am done with my soloshot:

A) power down,

B) remove lens from base,

C) Unscrew base from tripod

D) place lens & base in camera bag separately. This little procedure has saved me big time!

2- Rain/Moisture:

A) I use the Soloshot raincover, invaluable for harsh conditions

B) Avoid winds > 20kts, the base will shake

C) I use a plastic cup in any rain, this simple hack saved my lens!! Like this: https://prnt.sc/26kf3a4

3- Charging : Always charge 100% base and tag, anything less than 100% may result in failed tracking

4- Setup: When I get to the beach I do the following (almost religiously)

A) Setup Tripod

B) Take out base and lens, attach lens to base.

c) Power on base

d) screw on base to tripod

e) power on tag, place tag on to base.

f) When powered up, I wait extra 30-60 seconds for card/lens to register

g) Calibrate, I do almost everything that this guy does:

- except:

-> Tracking Settings- field of view: medium and Framing: Center

-> I keep the Tag ON the base while calibrating.

-> When calibration  is done, I remove the tag and then I walk/run a zig-zag pattern to help calibrate the tracking lead. This seems to help "train" the tracki#boong (see 5:45)

Everyone seems to acquire their own sequence for setting up a solotshot. Overall the SS3 is a great tool and when combined with a Video editor like KineMaster that can do SlowMotion + pan/Zoom over splits in a clip, it can produce some OK video clips!

have fun & good luck,

use a cup to protect from RAIN if you have an Optic65
